About Cogs Robotics

Cogs is an academy for robotics which nurtures students who are interested in learning about robots and STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths). We teach students to design, build, program and drive robots.

Robotics gives students the opportunity to work and create together to solve a problem. The students will be challenged to design and build a robot using the provided kit and to play a game on a field with a limited time restriction and set of rules. This brings out the best of the students' time management, team work, concentration.

What to expect:

Benefits:

Students will design and build a robot that can overcome obstacles. We encourage students to think outside the box and come up with ideas from designing a robot from scratch to taking it to a judged competition (Advance level). This requires a very strong understanding of science, technology, engineering and maths which we will help students develop throughout the course. These sessions are designed to expose students to STEM fundamentals within the context of building a robot. Without even realising it, students will begin to instinctively apply these lessons to their daily life as they advance through the programme. This hands-on process, especially for younger students, establishes an intuitive and deep-rooted expertise that cannot be replicated as effectively by traditional teaching methods.

Team Work:

Working as a team plays vital role in every success. It is the co-operation between those who are working on a task. When students work as a team they achieve more. Students will learn to understand others, learn new ideas, build friendships, share their ideas and listen to the ideas of their peers. Teamwork is crucial in a corporate, commercial world. Here at Cogs we ensure our students are divided into different teams which helps them to find a solution that works best. We also aim to ensure that deadlines are met and the work is of high quality.

Time Management:

The robotics competition is very time focused. The aim of the game is to score as many points in 60 seconds, so every second counts. The students should be able to manipulate the game elements using their robot within the short timeframe. This helps students to improve their time management skills.

Make new friends:

This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to meet likeminded peers and to develop their socialising skills. Many of our students have said that this their favourite part of the weekly sessions.

Competition:

'The VEX IQ Robotics Challenge envisions a world where every student has the opportunity to be inspired by the excitement of hands-on STEM learning and knows the feeling of creating something with technology. They encourage people of all ages and all backgrounds to recognise that, creative problem solving is fun and see its importance in shaping a better future.'

Interested students can compete in regional tournaments which are held year-round, to qualify for nationals. Teams who win the National tournament will qualify for VIQC World Championships, held in Kentucky, USA.

Nationals has been a very successful event. Our team got qualified to the Worlds by achieving the highest programming score for the skills and finished at 3rd in the overall skills.
